How to Maintain your CSM® certification
CSM Certification Validity and Extension
The CSM certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of training completion (regardless of when one passes the test)
The certificate is lifelong. Scrum Alliance will never take away the certificate. However, it will appear expired on the Scrum Alliance portal. Even after 10 years the expired certificate can be renewed in any of the following two ways:
- First way is to do any other Scrum Alliance certificate. This will extend the existing certificate automatically by 2 years
- Second way, one has to report 20 Scrum Education Units (SEU) and pay the renewal fees of $100. One Unit is equivalent to one hour. There are many ways one can report the SEUs. Scrum Alliance portal gives different ways to report 20 SEUs. Examples of SEUs could be reading a book or a blog, attending any other training, doing coaching etc
- If one holds multiple certificates of Scrum Alliance (e.g. CSM, CSPO), only one certificate needs to be extended. The other will extend automatically. One does NOT have to pay $100 for each certificate
If one holds any other Scrum Alliance certificate (example CSPO), the existing certificates would also be extended by 2 years from the date of the completion of the CSM training
If one holds any other Scrum Alliance certificate then one must provide the same email address attached to the Scrum Alliance profile
